ilona Bito

Ilona Bito is a dance artist and educator from Seattle, WA, living in NY since 2006. In 2008 Ilona participated in The School For International Training: Balinese Arts and Culture in Bedulu, Bali, completing her independent study in dance and choreography in Singaraja with Sanggar Shanti Budaya. The collaborative work, “I’You” was reviewed in the Jakarta Post: “Dancers Stage U.S.-Bali Performance”. Ilona continued Balinese Dance with Gamelan Dharma Swara in 2009-2010. In 2017 she studied with Made Cat Suteja in Batuan, Bali, and has been back with DS since 2018. 

Bito’s choreography - concerned with instinct, intuition and the art of play - has been presented by RECESS at Chez Bushwick (April 2021), Movement Research at the Judson Church (March 2020), Brooklyn Studios for Dance (2018 Artist in Residence), and more.  Bito has performed with Kathy Westwater since 2012- recently as rehearsal director for the world premiere of “Rambler…” at New York Live Arts, and as a core ensemble member with Daria Faïn/ The Commons Choir since 2015. Bito currently teaches youth with Movement Research Dance Makers in the Schools and Blue School, and all ages with Mind Over Matters fitness. In 2020 Ilona started Taproot Tai Chi LLC (@taproottaichi)  and became a mother.
