Sarah Mullins

Percussionist | Music Educator

Sarah is a classical percussionist who plays drum set, and sings in tune. She often sings to babies, and is a decent fake yodeler. Sarah joined DS in 2010, after her then-percussion teacher suggested she check out a DS workshop when she briefly mentioned that gamelan sounded “neat.” Learning to play gamelan has helped shape the way she performs and teaches all other forms of music, and has given her a sense of time, groove, and ensemble skills that have proved indispensable to her music career. She loves that she meets so many interesting people through gamelan who she would never have met otherwise, and considers DS to be her adoptive New York family. Sarah reads biographies, and fiction that is funny or magic. She usually reads books with a British accent. Sarah is from Canada.
