Ilona Bito is a dance artist and educator from Seattle, WA, living in NY since 2006. Her choreographic processes, currently including the series of “Tantrum Alchemy” and “Mat Time,” investigate improvisation, play, and collaborative learning, and have been presented at STooPS, Panoply Performance Lab, Glasshouse, BKSD, Bizarre, Outpost, NYC Community Gardens and more. She has performed with Kathy Westwater and The Commons Choir/Daria Fain, Brooklyn Touring Outfit/Pepper Fajans, as a co-organizer of Occupy Dance, and as a member of the Bo Law Kung Fu Demo Team. She teaches movement arts to children at Abrons Arts Center, BKSD, and with Movement Research’s Dancemakers in the Schools, and Tai Chi and Qi Gong with Mind Over Matters and in the park, to adults of all ages. She recently returned from studying Baris dance in Batuan, Bali, and choreographing a youth production of “Grease” for Youth Bridge Global in Majuro, Republic of the Marshall Islands. She is an Underscore facilitator at Movement Research, and is completing Daria Fain’s Coremotion certification program this spring 2018 and. She holds a B.A. and MS. Ed. from Sarah Lawrence College.
