Samy was introduced to gamelan during her elementary school years in Jakarta, where it was part of the music curriculum. Decades later, she never imagined that she would rediscover her passion for this traditional Indonesian art form in New York. Joining Dharma Swara in 2022 has given her the opportunity to connect with a vibrant community of fellow musicians, explore a new musical outlet beyond casually playing guitar and piano at home, and reconnect with her Indonesian heritage. Playing gamelan provides her with joy and a fulfilling challenge through its intricate harmonies and complex rhythms. By day, she is an Art Director/Graphic Designer/Motion Designer.
