Siwen Xi is a pianist and Japanese koto player performing in New York and Los Angeles.

She has also had the opportunity to learn the jakhe, a Thai instrument with Dr. Supeena Adler at UCLA and further, has been performing at events hosted by UCLA and the Royal Thai Consulate in LA.

She is pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts at USC’s Thornton School of Music with a concentration on music education, jazz studies, and world music. Her dissertation topic is on the learner’s experience in academic world music ensembles, specifically the gamelan programs in higher education settings.

She discovered Balinese and Javanese gamelan at UCLA and has been playing and learning with Pak I Nyoman Wenten and Pak Joko Sutrisno. In 2023 she joined Dharma Swara and looks forward to expanding her gamelan experience in New York.
